T5 Light Repair in Prima 16 Chapter Two, PJ
Today we received many electrical service enquiries. One of the cases was from a customer in Petaling Jaya (PJ) who had a problem with his bookshelf T5 lights. The T5 lights were not working, and he wanted us to check the actual cause.
Before contacting us, he had already engaged another wireman to inspect the problem. However, after checking, the wireman was unable to identify and solve the issue.
The customer then contacted us for electrical troubleshooting. Our job was to find out whether the problem was caused by the T5 light, switch, wiring, mcb, or other electrical components.
Many people think that when a light is not working, the problem is always the light itself. However, electrical problems can also be caused by loose connections, faulty wiring, MCB connection issues, or unstable power supply.
Checking the T5 Light and Existing Wiring
When we arrived at the location, we first tested the T5 lights using an extension wire. The lights worked normally, which showed that the T5 light itself was not the main problem.
After further inspection, we discovered that the existing wiring had many cable joints. The previous wireman had used leftover cables and joined them together instead of installing a proper continuous cable.
Multiple cable joints can become weak points over time. Loose connections or poor joints may cause intermittent lighting problems, voltage drops or safety risks. Actually we don’t recommend joining cables.
Replacing Concealed Wiring Inside Built-In Cabinet
After identifying the cause, we recommended replacing the existing cable with a new proper wire.
The challenging part was that the wiring was concealed inside a built-in cabinet. Replacing concealed wiring requires extra care because we need to install the new cable without damaging the cabinet structure.
Although it was a difficult job, we managed to pull the new cable through the cabinet successfully and complete the wiring replacement.
Proper DB Box Troubleshooting Saves Time and Cost
This case shows that electrical troubleshooting is not just about replacing a faulty light. A proper inspection is important to identify the actual cause before changing any parts.
Using the correct cable, avoiding unnecessary joints, and carrying out proper electrical workmanship can help improve safety, reliability, and the long-term performance of the lighting system.
