Power Trip Problem During Rainy Days? How Mr Electrician Solved a House Blackout Issue in Shah Alam
Recently, the rainy weather in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor has caused many homeowners to experience electrical problems. When heavy rain comes, some houses may suddenly face issues such as power trips, electrical socket failure, air conditioner power point problems, or even complete blackout.
This morning, Mr Electrician received a call from a homeowner in Shah Alam who had lost electricity throughout the house. The customer told us, “I tried pushing the main switch up, but it keeps kicking back down” After trying to switch the main power back on, the switch immediately tripped again and could not remain ON.
For many homeowners, this situation can be confusing. They may try pushing the switch back several times, but if the electrical protection system keeps cutting off, it usually means there is a problem that needs proper checking.
Instead of forcing the switch repeatedly, the customer contacted Mr Electrician to inspect the electrical system and find out the actual cause.

Checking the Electrical System and Finding the Fault
When our electrician arrived at the house, we started with an inspection of the distribution board (DB box). The first step was to identify which safety device was causing the trip and trace where the electrical fault was coming from. Electrical troubleshooting is not just about switching the power back on. We need to check the condition of the safety devices, wiring, electrical points, and possible leakage issues.
After testing, we found that the RCCB was faulty and could no longer operate properly. The RCCB (Residual Current Circuit Breaker) is an important safety component in a home electrical system. Its function is to cut off the electricity supply when it detects abnormal current leakage, helping to protect homeowners from electrical hazards.
A faulty RCCB may cause unnecessary power trips, making it impossible for the electricity supply to remain stable.
RCCB Replacement Restored Electricity
After confirming the problem, we replaced the faulty RCCB with a new unit and performed another round of testing to ensure the electrical system was working correctly.
After the replacement, the main switch stayed ON and the electricity supply was successfully restored.
The homeowner was relieved that the blackout problem was solved and the house could return to normal operation.

Why Do Electrical Problems Happen More Often During Rainy Weather?
During rainy seasons, moisture can affect electrical components, especially older electrical systems, outdoor wiring, power points, and equipment exposed to weather conditions.
Besides RCCB problems, homeowners may also experience issues such as:
- Main switch frequently tripping
- Electrical sockets not working
- Air conditioner power supply problems
- Autogate power interruption
- DB box safety device failure
When electrical problems happen repeatedly, it is better to let a qualified electrician inspect the system instead of continuously resetting the switch.
