Sometimes, main contractors play dirty tricks to maximize their profits. They go for the cheapest electrical materials like MCBs, DB boxes, and wires, and hire the cheapest labor to do the job. For example, you as the owner might pay RM 40,000 for the whole house wiring, but the contractor might only spend RM 30,000 on materials, and pocket the remaining RM 10,000.
But sometimes, the owner also plays a part in this by constantly pushing for a lower price. The owner wants to cut costs and use the cheapest options available, and when the contractor offers a discount, they think they’re getting a great deal. Little do they know, the contractor may be cutting corners and using tricks to still make a profit off the situation.
Then, when there are electrical faults like the power tripping frequently, some points not working, or home appliances keep burning out, the owner calls the main contractor. But the contractor refuses to come back for rework, or worse, they can’t even remember who the wireman was. This leaves the owner with unresolved issues and no one to take responsibility for the poor work.
The owner then has to call another wireman to come and inspect and repair the faults. When the new wireman asks what happened, the owner usually talks bad about the main contractor. But from the conversation, it’s clear that the owner is also trying to save as much money as possible, looking for the cheapest solutions which eventually contributes to the whole mess. You know lah… many owners won’t tell the truth and never admit their mistakes.

The electrician inspects the electrical panel, MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker), RCD, Mainswitch and ELCB (Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker), searching for any signs of wear, damage, or overheating. Additionally, they confirm the functionality of all circuit breakers and fuses to confirm proper operation and safety. The electrician examines visible wiring for any signs of fraying, damage, or improper installation, including a thorough check of power points, light switches and aircond switches. Following this, they proceed to test wall sockets and switches to verify their functionality. Over time, the switches on wall sockets can become damaged, rendering them unable to be turned on or off.
How Often Should Homeowners Arrange For Electrical Inspections?
We recommend that homes, offices, and shops to undergo an electrical safety inspection every few years. How often you should schedule electrical home inspections depends on factors such as your home’s age, the condition of its electrical system, and any renovations. For homes older than 30 years, it’s suggested to arrange inspections every 2 to 3 years. For homes under 30 years old without any identified electrical problems, it’s recommended to conduct comprehensive inspections every 3 to 5 years.
