House Blackout Repair – Hidden Ceiling Socket Caused Repeated Power Trips

Recently, our team at Mr Electrician received a call from Madam Lee, who had just returned home after a long day at work. As soon as she entered her house, she noticed that everything was dark. At first, she thought there was a power outage in the area. However, after checking with her neighbours, she found that their electricity was working normally.

The problem was only happening in her house.

Like many homeowners would do, Madam Lee went to the DB Box and tried to switch the power back on. Unfortunately, every time she reset the tripped circuit breaker, it would trip again a few seconds later.

After several attempts, she realised there was likely a fault somewhere in the electrical system. That was when she decided to contact Mr Electrician for help.

Checking The Electrical System

When our technician arrived, we started by inspecting the DB Box, MCCB, and MCBs to find out which circuit was causing the problem. Very quickly, we noticed that one particular MCB kept tripping while the others remained normal. This told us that the fault was likely connected to that specific electrical line.

We then began checking the house circuit one point at a time. We inspected power sockets, switches, wiring connections, and electrical accessories. Everything appeared normal, but the MCB continued to trip. Sometimes electrical faults can be difficult to locate, especially when equipment has been installed in hidden areas.

The Hidden Socket Above The Ceiling

While discussing the problem, Madam Lee suddenly remembered something. Several years ago, when a CCTV system was installed, the installer suggested placing the power socket above the ceiling to keep the wiring hidden and make the installation look cleaner. At the time, it seemed like a good idea.

Fortunately, Madam Lee still remembered roughly where the hidden socket was located. After opening the ceiling access panel and carrying out further checks, we finally found the source of the problem. The CCTV power socket above the ceiling had become faulty and was causing the circuit to trip repeatedly.

The fault itself was actually quite minor. However, because the socket was hidden above the ceiling, it took much longer to locate and access.

Why Future Maintenance Is Important

Many homeowners like to hide wiring, adapters, CCTV power supplies, and sockets to make the house look neat and tidy. While this improves appearance, it is also important to think about future maintenance.

When electrical accessories are installed in places that are difficult to access, even a small problem can become more time-consuming and costly to repair.

In this case, Madam Lee was lucky because she still remembered where the hidden socket had been installed. Otherwise, finding the fault could have taken much longer.

Power Restored Successfully

After replacing the faulty socket and carrying out the necessary tests, the electrical system returned to normal. The MCB stopped tripping and the power supply was fully restored.

The lights came back on, the CCTV system was working again, and Madam Lee could finally relax after a stressful evening.Sometimes a house blackout is not caused by a major electrical fault.

Sometimes the problem is simply a small hidden component that nobody remembers until it fails.
As we completed the repair and watched the lights come back on, one thought came to mind:
