You Want a CHEAP Wireman, But You Don’t Trust Him

Today we received a call from a customer in Damansara who is currently renovating and extending his kitchen area. He engaged a Myanmar worker to handle the wiring works, but later realized that the worker didn’t know how to do it properly. That’s when he decided to call a professional wireman to inspect and ensure everything is done safely and according to standard. Electrical wiring, especially during renovations, must be carried out with the correct cable sizing, proper earthing system, and safety devices like MCB, RCCB, and SPD to prevent overloading, tripping, or even fire hazards in the future.

At first, when he spoke to me, I could already sense something was not right. From the way he asked his questions, I could feel that this guy macam tak betul. Not very clear about what he wanted and definitely not confident about the wiring works. That’s why I suspected early on that the renovation wiring was not done properly and true enough, later he admitted that the Myanmar worker didn’t know how to handle the wiring safely. You know la… in Malaysia, many people are not willing to tell the truth directly. You can only really find out when they start asking strange or unusual questions because normally, no one would ask like that unless something is off.

He Keeps Asking Electrical Questions…

So I kept on asking him more and more questions, just to confirm my suspicion. The way he answered me clearly showed he didn’t really understand how proper wiring should be done. That’s when I knew I had to step in, because if I didn’t, the whole kitchen extension wiring might end up dangerous and unsafe for the family.

Here are the kinds of questions he asked me:

  • “How much is your earthing per rod?”
  • “Can I use 2.5mm as the earth wire?”
  • “For the kitchen power sockets, how many points can I loop on one line?”
  • “For the lights, how many points can I loop?”
  • “A wireman is already working in my house. Can you take over the job?”
  • “If my old earthing resistance is more than 10 ohm, say, 25 ohms and I connect the new dB to it will it still be safe?”
  • “Can I request the wireman to use ABB brand, without changing the price?”
  • “How do I know if my Myanmar wireman did the wiring correctly?”

While I was writing this post, he called me again and asked about the earthing resistance, as if I were his consultant or site supervisor. He said his wireman is using a 2.5 mm² green cable for the earth chamber to the DB, and asked if that is okay. I told him that according to Malaysian regulations, the minimum is 10 mm² and it’s better to use 16 mm². What do you think about 2.5 mm² okay or not? I know he just wanted to keep asking me questions then go back to the Myanmar guy and force him to follow my specifications.

I immediately turned him down and told him I don’t want to get involved, since he already has someone doing his electrical work. It feels like he just wants to get information from me to make sure the Myanmar wireman does it right and then press me for more advice without giving me the job.

We Work Together As Wiremen, Not Against Each Other

Please don’t ask us questions only to pressure your wireman or extract more from them. This is NOT the way. For your information, I’ve served thousands of customers and answered countless calls. From the way someone speaks in the first few words, I can already understand their character and intentions. It’s better to be straightforward with me. Experience has taught me to read between the lines, and I can quickly spot whether someone is genuinely seeking help or just trying to extract information without hiring proper services. That’s why I always encourage people to be upfront and straightforward with me. Clear communication saves everyone time and prevents misunderstandings. If you want advice, guidance or a professional service, I’m happy to help. But I won’t provide free consultation just to have someone take my specifications and pass them to another worker. Trust and transparency are key in any professional relationship especially when it comes to electrical work where safety is involved.

Common Electrical Problems We Can Solve

If your ELCB or MCB trips inconsistently, we can trace and fix the problem to keep your home safe. Are some of your electrical appliances or wires getting very hot, causing your Main Switch, MCB, or ELCB to burn? No worries, we offer Thermographic Inspection services to detect overheating problems before they start burning.

LED lights staying on after switching off? Autogate wiring acting up? Or two or more wires short-circuiting? We can trace and fix these issues quickly and safely.

Are you experiencing any of these problems at home or in your office? We can help:

  • Frequent MCB or ELCB Tripping – Breakers that trip randomly or inconsistently.
  • RCCB/RCD Not Tripping – Safety devices failing to protect against leakage.
  • Overheating Wires or Appliances – Hot cables or devices that could be dangerous.
  • Burning Smells or Sparks – Signs of overloaded circuits or faulty wiring.
  • Lights Staying On – LED or light bulbs that remain on after switching off.
  • Voltage Fluctuations – Flickering or dimming lights from unstable supply.
  • Short Circuits – Wires touching and causing faults.
  • Partial Power Outages – Certain sockets or lights losing power unexpectedly.
  • Autogate Wiring Issues – Gate motors or controls malfunctioning.
  • Faulty Switches or Sockets – Loose, burnt, or non-functional points.
  • Earth / Earthing Problems – High resistance or poor connections.
  • Overloaded Circuits – Too many appliances on one line causing heat or tripping.
  • Surge or Lightning Damage – Appliances or SPD units affected by storms.
  • Old or Damaged Wiring – Worn insulation, brittle cables, or corrosion.
  • Hidden Thermal Issues – Hotspots detected through thermographic inspection.

We trace, inspect, and fix these problems safely before they turn into major hazards. For troubleshooting, repairs, and inspections, call Wireman Alex today: 012-870 2699.
